Chapter 10 : Audio and Video Technologies in Teaching & Learning - Traditional and Digital Audio and Video Media

Audio and video is also a popular tool used to engage learners and enhance a learning experience. Anyone with a digital camera, webcam, tablet or smartphone can now create and edit a sound and movie. Video can effectively communicate complex information to a student and, if used creatively, can become a powerful expressive tool.

Based on my experience, I rarely used audio in my classroom. I was used video or Youtube for additional resource to my students. If creating and using video and audio content as part of my learning materials, I require a lot of planning to make sure that it’s fit for purpose and appropriate for the type of learning.

Example video that I use in my class:

Chpater 9 : Internet-Based Communications, Using Internet & Web and in Teaching & Learning

In today’s society having access to the digital world is important. Teachers or educators in many classrooms are using the internet and the web to reach different learning styles/abilities and provide a more active, student-centered learning environment that empowers students and makes them want to continue learning.

I also let my students use the Internet to do a research and to complete their assignments. Most of my class in the computer lab because my students need to use computer, internet and software application for their learning. Rather than using a computer, students also like to discuss and learn from Whatsapp group and Facebook group. It’s easier because they can access from the smartphone. Nowadays, this application is very popular among the students and educators.

Chapter 8 : Academic Software - Graphic Software ,Tutorial Software, Educational Games

Many software applications and Web sites provide learning aids. Academic Software is computer software, the primary purpose of which is teaching or self-learning. Types of academic software are graphic software, tutorial software and educational games. After learned this topic, I can create and use a variety of assessment in the classroom using availability tools like Kahoot, Quizizz, and Puzzlemaker. By integrating these forms of technology tools, students will be more excited about learning and will strive to be more effective learners. I still need to explore the new tools because I never use before in my classroom.

Kahoot is a free game-based learning platform, as educational technology. I can use it to monitor each student’s progress towards learning objectives, identify strengths and weaknesses, and to identify areas where the students would benefit from more one-to-one teaching, more challenging learning opportunities, or a review of foundational knowledge for that subject. From my opinion, the quick and to-the-point set-up process makes this online tool one of the easiest and most effective sites to use.

Chapter 7 : Administrative Software - Presentation Software, Portfolio Assessment Software.

Through this class, I have been exposed to many forms of technology that I was unfamiliar with or had little exposure to. Previously, I just used Microsoft Powerpoint as a presentation software in my classroom. A presentation software is a software package used to display information in the form of a slide show. Another alternative to Powerpoint that I learned in this class is Prezi and Powtoon. After doing a research from Internet, I found that a lot of presentation software available. Some have their pros and cons while others are perfect for a certain audience.

In this class, I was discovered Prezi, Powtoon and Haiku Deck. Prezi provides people with creating better style and effect in their presentations. Prezi uses the concept of Pathway Points instead of slides to give the visual cinematic appeal of their presentations. It can be used by practically anyone and easy to learn but Prezi was difficult to customize slides. Powtoon is an animation presentation software that allows a user to create presentations and videos that are animated, interesting and engaging. When first time uses Powtoon, I really like the interface and it truly customizable presentation but Powtoon not suitable to live presentations. Haiku Deck software is a template-based platform that allows for people to create elegant looking presentations. This software is the fast onboarding process but users cannot customize the presentations.

Chapter 6 : Administrative Software - Electronic Spreadsheets and Data Management

A spreadsheet software is an interactive computer application for an organization, analysis, and storage of data in tabular form. Electronic spreadsheet software allows the user to add, subtract, and perform user define calculations on rows of columns and numbers. A popular example of spreadsheet software is Microsoft Excel. I also taught my students this topic that includes in PC Competency subject and Advanced PC Competency subject.

Microsoft Excel 2013

A data management software is software that takes data and converts various kinds of data into a single storage container or aggregates diverse data into a consistent resource, such as a database. An example of data management software is Oracle, Microsoft Access, SQL Server and so on. I had used Microsoft Access 2013 in my Database Fundamental class. This software very easy to use and students can understand the concept of database.

Chapter 5 : Administrative Software - Word Processing & Desktop Publishing

This topic I learned in second class with Dr.Norizan and Dr.Farhah. I really enjoyed the lesson because this class taught me different learning tools that can be used in the classroom. It really helps me to motivate my students and make learning more fun. Searching for the different resources to use and then seeing the final project made me realize how beneficial this activity could be to students and how it can make learning more engaging and interesting.

Word processing software is a computer software application that performs the task of composing, editing, formatting, and printing of documents. Common word processing software is Microsoft Office. I was used Microsoft Office 2013 to do my work and taught students using this software based on their PC Competency subject.

Desktop publishing software (DTP) is the creation of documents using page layout skills on a personal computer primarily for print. When used skillfully, desktop publishing allows the user to produce a wide variety of materials, from menus to magazines and books, without the expense of commercial printing. The popular DTP software that my students used is Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Chapter 4 : Digital Technologies in the Classroom-Emerging Digital Technologies for the Classroom

The lesson of this topic about emerging digital technologies for the classroom. Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, devices and resources that generate, store or process data. These includes social media, online games and applications, multimedia, productivity applications, cloud computing, inter operable systems and mobile devices.

I believe, to engage students in the classroom and create a real world connection is to utilize technology. Students need to be eager to learn new technologies on a regular basis as it is constantly changing. Students can effectively learn how to use the Internet to do research, get used to latest software programs, public speaking skills to present their projects to the class and collaborate with other students to enhance further learning. Previously, I had used some technology in my classroom, but not utilized the variety of technology tools with my students. So, after I learned this subject I will use the latest technological tools and new software programs designed for Information Technology subjects. The skills students learn will be essential for them as they will have to use these technological tools in the college and their careers in future.

Technology is all around today’s students. Understanding and embracing this in the classroom will allow students to grow and learners and interact with the curriculum on a deeper level. By constantly looking for new ways to integrate technology, I can help my students become the effective, 21st-century learners that will be successful adults in the workplace. I look forward to continuing to utilize the skills and strategies I have learned in this course. My students have already benefited from my experiences and I look forward to integrating more forms of technology into my classroom.
